Samenvatting | Is true happiness within reach? This book for children aged 4 and up tells the story of the little boy Kang's search for happiness, more than 300 years after he was drawn on a Chinese pot. He is trapped in sorrow by the brushstroke of the porcelain painter, until he is freed by the wish of a curator. He sets off on a journey, accompanied only by his wise blue and white rocking horse. Along the way he is joined by Lucky Animals: the Dragon, the Lion Dog, the Elephant, the Mandarin Duck and the Feng Huang. They have all been released from their plates and vases, each with their own power. Together they travel through Chinese cultural history and enter the decorations on porcelain in the museum, such as a wedding and an attack by robbers. The characters and the experiences that Kang has along... (Lees verder) the way teach him that happiness sometimes comes at the moment you least expect it... The book illustrations bring the rich symbolism on Chinese porcelain to life. The child's imagination is stimulated by the lively characters, derived from real pieces of porcelain from the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Keramiek Museum de Princessehof. The story playfully introduces the symbolism of Chinese art and introduces the child to the Chinese material culture from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It inspires children (and their parents) to really look at arts and crafts, objects that are difficult to make attractive to the target group. At the moment, during the exhibition 10,000x Happiness in the Princessehof, the book is linked to an educational program and quest through the exhibition. The book forms a bridge for children to the Chinese world of experience, through, among other things, the rocking horse, another attractive toy, through which the child can identify with another culture.
